Born in 1984 in Antananarivo.
Lives and works between Beirut, Antananarivo and Berlin. By sheer coincidence he started in 2007 with artistic work in the field of videography. Since then, he has produced a series of intimate self-portraits, and developed an interest for photography and installation. His work has been shown in art centers and contemporary art events in his country, Madagascar, as well as in Africa and Europe : Madagascar Short Film Festival, Habaka Ankisoma, Bamako Encounters Photography, Dakar Biennale, Paris Art Fair… Previously, for twelve years (2006-2018), Rina Ralay-Ranaivo was in charge of the artistic programming at the Institut Français of Madagascar. Before, he had been a journalist (2003 to 2005) for the Malagasy newspaper La Gazette de la Grande Ile, after having studied Information Science and Communication at the University of Antananarivo. Also an exhibition curator, he collaborated with many artists and set up various artistic projects. In 2019, he was the co-curator of the National Pavilion of Madagascar at the 58th edition of the Venice Biennale – the first time ever that his home country participated at this international exhibition.
